Make a ban on the sale of high capacity ammunition magazines a requirement for any bill addressing the fiscal cliff

Created by M.O. on December 14, 2012

The issue of gun control is highly contentious and there is no consensus regarding what regulations would work to prevent or at least limit the carnage wrought by the recent wave of mass shootings across the country, but one small measure would be highly effective--banning the sale of high capacity ammunition magazines. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy and Sen. Frank Lautenberg recently introduced H.R. 308/S. 32, the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act, which would ban the sale of magazines with more than 10 rounds, the limit in place prior to the expiration of the assault weapons ban in 2004.

The impending "fiscal cliff" provides the leverage required to pass this bill. To prevent more senseless deaths, it should be a condition to any agreement on the fiscal cliff.
