Make blood donation rules for gay men the same as for other risky donors

Created by J.A. on November 14, 2014

The Red Cross blood donation program follows rules established by the FDA. A man who had sex with another man, even once, since 1977 is prohibited from donating blood forever. Other high-risk donors, such as drug abusers and men who have sex with a prostitute, are banned for only one year. There is no scientific basis for this distinction. It appears prejudicial and reduces vital blood donations.
