Make BP CLEAN THE TAR MATS off of the Bottom of the Gulf of Mexico

Created by M.M. on March 24, 2015

Tar mats composed of oil and dispersants from the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill continue to be found on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Scientists estimate that 6-10 million gallons of oil is still on the Gulf floor, and one tar mat is reportedly the size of Rhode Island.

The oil cannot break down at the depths of the Gulf because natural components needed to break down the oil, such as light, oxygen, and certain bacteria, are missing at those depths. The oil continues to contaminate all ocean life, and with it our food supply.

BP chose to sink the oil with dispersants, rather than to clean it up. Now, we demand that BP be held responsible and be required to clean the tar mats off of the floor of the Gulf of Mexico!
