Make Changes To The Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) So Soldiers Can Change To The REAP (Chapter 1607)

Created by K.D. on April 15, 2013

Some V.A. reps are misleading Reserve and National Guard soldiers into switching to The Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), by telling them it will be their best financial option. After doing research, I have found that in some cases this is not true. Reserve and National Guard soldiers who only have one deployment that use scholarships, or Tuition Assistance, are usually financially better off using the REAP (Chapter 1607). The problem is that when these soldiers switch to The Post-9/11 GI Bill they have to sign a document stating that they will forfeit all other GI Bill benefits. Once the V.A. has them sign the paper work the soldiers can't change back, even after finding out they lost out on money. Changes need to be made so soldiers can switch to the best benefit when they are mislead.
