Todays Laws require the non custodial parent to pay child support without being able to deduct that income from their taxes, while at the same time preventing them from receiving the child tax credit because they are the non custodial parent.
This has been a highly unfair law for many years because not all states family courts allow for alternating years claiming the children, and the ones that do are hesitant to do such even when parents spend almost equal time with the child/children.
The law should be changed to be more fair to the children, allowing the child support to be tax deductible or mandating alternating child credits. Example law non custodial parent even year, custodial parent odd years.
Child support is supposed to be for the children, not to benefit the custodial parent.
