Make child support payments tax deductible

Created by R.W. on January 17, 2013

Every year millions of divorced parents have to pay hundreds to thousands in child support to their ex spouse. Since this money is paid using after tax dollars, and in many situations represents a significant portion of the paying spouses income, this money should be tax deductible. At a minimum we deserve a tax credit for the support paid, or the child tax credits and deductions should be split between both parents, especially in situations of joint custody.
