The Church of Scientology is a multi-billion dollar "non-profit" organization, currently paying no taxes because it is considered a religious institution protected by the First Amendment. Don't be fooled. This so called "religion" fails to provide a public good, which is, at the very least, what makes a church worthy of tax-emption. Over the last 60 years this institution has partaken in atrocious actions such as underpaying its employees as little as 40 cents/hour, imprisoning and torturing members who disagreed or had doubts, and intimidating past members who spoke out against the church. The approximately 50,000 members donate millions simply to pad the pockets of the church's legal team in order to protect it from litigation. These practices don't sound like a religious institution.
