Make College More Affordable for Low-Income Families

Created by A.R. on April 21, 2014

A college education is unavailable for thousands of low-income high school students across the nation. This stems from the high tuitions that most colleges have nowadays. According to The College Board website, the average tuition and fee for a private nonprofit four-year college in 2013-2014 was $30,094. In order to make college more affordable, I suggest the following points. Standardize colleges' financial aid forms to make them simpler so families know exactly how much they must pay for different colleges. Support President Obama's proposals to increase college affordability, such as raising the Pell Grant and providing aid to colleges that keep their tuition manageable. Finally, colleges should increase merit and need-based grants so that students do not need to rely on loans as much.
