Make College Readiness Classes a Graduation Requirement to Prepare Graduates for Post-Secondary Education

Preparing high school graduates for college is an essential goal of the Department of Education. Many first generation college students have little understanding of how to navigate the often confusing world of post-secondary education. With required classes in high school to prepare students for college the United States can help to ensure that first generation college students graduate with a college degree. These classes would include but would not be limited to the following: study skills, how to complete the FAFSA, how to complete college applications and create resumes, and what to expect from college coursework. Requiring that graduating seniors all have an understanding of how college works will increase the graduation rate of all students from 4-year universities.
