Make a commitment to raise the tax on gasoline in order to adequately finance transportation infrastructure.

The gas tax currently stands at 18.4 cents per gallon. This number is very low relative to the price of gasoline. Gasoline prices have gone up a large amount and though there are many negative consequences, it should be clear that a 10 or 15 cent increase in the tax would have little impact on the consumer (already used to dollar or more increases) and the money would allow the government to invest properly in the maintenance and repair of existing roads and bridges and to increase funding for public transportation projects. The return on investment would be felt by the many workers hired for these projects, and by the businesses and employees increased ability to move goods to market and get to work on time.
