The base pay for House and Senate members is currently $174,000 per year. In 1990 Congressional pay was $98,400, a $75,600 "cost of living" raise. Congress votes on their own raise. I propose we change this automatic raise (the Obama "No budget, No Pay" will expire in 2014), and vote for Congressional pay raises with each Presidential Election. I further propose that these potential raises take place every 4 years, and not every year as it currently is.
Congress has the only job in the country whose occupants can set their own salary without regard to performance, profit, or economic climate.*
