Approximately 5.5 million children are abused every year, yet corporal punishment remains legal in all 50 states. Physically disciplining a child is an ineffective and dangerous form of punishment. Corporal punishment should be illegal in every state, in schools as well as at home. While the intent may be to help, emotions can take over and cross a fine line between discipline and abuse. The risks to the child’s health and safety are far too high to make corporal punishment acceptable.
