For years other countries have had the luxury of internet speeds much greater than ours. Look at Japan and Korea, for example, where they have regular access to fiber to the home (FTTH) and speeds up to 1 gigabit (Gbps). People seem to think that the government should be responsible for this monetarily, but they shouldn't. How long have we been price gouged for lower speeds, and how long have we waited to get this high speed access, all while file sizes and data consumption grows? We need these region-wide companies to stop investing in old, nearly-obsolete technologies such as DOCSIS and to invest in future-proof technology.
This would create both long term and short term jobs, as well as create a boom for the economy in the form of taxes. One company isn't doing all the work or spending
