Americans are overworked and overwhelmed. Data sources show that Americans work dozens more hours than comparable economies - up to a month more a year. Additionally, Americans have fewer vacation days in comparison - hovering at 2-3 weeks compared with 6+ weeks in other nations as a base.
Americans tend to spend Thanksgiving with their families, which can include travel. Having to take an extra vacation day on Friday because the Thanksgiving holiday is on a Thursday is counter to the idea that this is a time to spend with family, relaxed and enjoying the time. A four day weekend is an investment in rested workers who will be more productive.
