This petition requests the White House draft a bill amending the Uniform Time Act, to make the Daylight Savings Time (DST) period year-round. This would allow states to choose between DST and Standard Time (ST) for timekeeping. If states wished to alternate between them, they could amend their state law twice a year.
Despite providing an excuse to be late for meetings on the Monday after the change, the transitions between ST and DST are more frustrating than useful. While states have the option to opt out of DST and into ST year-round, there is no option for states to move to DST year-round.
Such a move would shift an hour of darkness to the start of most people's day, and add an extra hour of light to the end of their day, where they are less likely to spend it inside.
