Right now the way the federal student aid programs are set up people who are under 25 that are not married are tied to their parents income when it comes to decisions about federal student loans and grants, even if their parents are not funding their education.
The signers of this petition believe that this is not fair to independent young adults in this country attempting to further their education.
We believe that the decision to grant federal student aid should be determined based on tax filing status, independent vs dependent, and then based on their individual income if they are independent.
