This petition asks the Federal Government, specifically the Obama White House, to play an active role in the revitalizing of the city of Detroit by choosing it as one of the next "Promise Zones".
The city of Detroit has strong foundations in many areas including it's geographical location, the amount of secondary education that goes on there, the wealthy suburbs outside of it, and a revitalized downtown area.
Like many cities in the past two decades, Detroit is going through a process of reinventing itself as the economy shifts from manufacturing into other technologies.
However, Detroit lacks the capital in order to make the long-term investments that would spur it's development at a more rapid pace and therefore would benefit from the added support.
