Diwali is a holiday that many Hindus and Jains celebrate, worldwide! Diwali is known as the festival of lights, but it is also the new year! In our schooling systems, students get days off for many holidays that are celebrated worldwide. It is unjust that a holiday which is celebrated by many does not have the same recognition as others. (Holidays that are given time off are, Passover, Christmas, Channukah, etc.)
Some of the same religions get multiple days off for multiple holidays, so why is it not alright for Hindus & Jains to get one day off for their new year?
I believe that one day is needed to be given to those who celebrate Diwali! One day is needed for Indians to perform their religious rituals.One day is Ok to spare!
