Citizens who use the internet for personal and business activities increasingly face doxing [the release of private information, without permission, including legal name, address, passport and driver's license information on the web to harass, extort, or otherwise threaten the target] and SWAT-ing [The false reporting of drug activity, kidnapping, or other crimes with the intent to prompt police SWAT teams to storm the addresses of the target when in fact no crime is taking place.]. These attacks put people at real risk. Often victims are left with no recourse through the courts because attacks often cross state or national borders . Therefore we call upon Congress to enact new laws or modify existing ones to make these practices explicit federal crimes under US
