The National Weather Service pushes the "turn around don't drown" trying to get people to turn around instead of driving through flood waters. This unfortunately has not worked as well as it should because people every year continue to drive through flood waters and then end up get swept up by the moving high water and that then forces emergency crews to put their lives at risk for people who refused to turn around and drive away from flood waters. I say it needs to be illegal and people should be fined for driving through floods to hopefully help curb the urge for people to drive through flood waters. Our emergency crews jobs are hard and dangerous enough without having to deal with folks who insists on driving through flood waters.
