Under the current system it is up to individual States to institute their own Drunk Driving / Driving Under the Influence laws. Most of these laws are far too lax and result in repeat offenders who receive nothing more then a slap on the wrist. Every time some one gets behind the wheel while impaired they are not only risking their own lives, but the lives of everyone else the come across.
We need a uniform system, with strict limits and appropriate punishments. A violation should come with mandatory jail time for the first offense. Prosecutors should have the option of Deportation for non-citizens for any level of offense. Additionally, for offenses that result in the death of an innocent party, they should be allowed to press for maximum punishment of life in prison.
