Make early science education more about inspirational concepts, not frustrating unit conversions - switch to metric!

Created by S.L. on April 03, 2015

Even when we know better, little, emotional responses to minor frustrations can hijack rational desires to improve ourselves. The ability to overcome such obstacles must come from an innate or inspired passion to persevere in pursuit of a goal. For students starting out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), many don’t know how important STEM is to their individual and our collective future, so why should we be surprised if they tune out when the first steps in STEM education must consist of complicated, frustrating unit conversions that take extra paper, extra lead, extra thought, extra time? Switching to metric units across the nation will make calculations easier and faster, saving emotional energy and actual time that can be refocused on inspirational STEM concepts.
