America must begin to develop an economic system and energy policy that does not demand the mass consumption of finite natural resources. It is vital to the future of the United States and the future well-being of humankind that we make ecological and environmental sustainability a top national and global priority. The issues surrounding the sustainability of our civilization are vast and daunting. But they also provide an opportunity to bring all of humankind together through cooperation in an unprecedented way. The very future of human civilization on Earth is at stake. We must stop ignoring the reckless damage we are doing to our biosphere through consumption, waste, and poor stewardship of our delicate ecosystem.
