If we truly value our democracy we must give Election Day (the Tuesday after the first Monday in November) the reverence it deserves by making it a federal holiday.
A federal holiday would promote participation, improve access to the polls, and would likely help reduce lines at polling places by distributing voting more evenly throughout the day, rather than before and after the work day.
How can we advocate the virtues of democracy throughout the world if we do not properly observe the most sacred day in our democracy?
Surely, Election Day is as significant an event as the federal holiday that it produces - Inauguration Day.
