Make Election Day a federal holiday.

Created by A.M. on November 05, 2014

The United States being the first modern government organized as a republic "of the people, by the people, for the people", it is shameful that the day in which we as a people are given the responsibility to fulfill our duties is not a federal holiday. In school we are taught that as Americans we ought to vote and have a say in our how we are governed, and to do so is patriotic. We also learn of our storied past, wherein our forefathers fought and died against those looking to prevent such a form of government. And yet, that act which makes our system of government great and is celebrated and encouraged by all politicians is not given its own holiday as it is in other countries. We must change this as soon as possible: Election Day should be a holiday.
