One of the things that makes America great is our right as citizens to choose our own leaders. Please honor that right by making Election Day a national, federal holiday, much like Labor Day and Independence Day.
No one should miss the chance to vote because of work. No American should have to bend over backwards to rearrange their life or pay for child care for one day, so that they can exercise one of our country's greatest freedoms. There should be no barriers to voting.
We celebrate the sacrifice of those who have died to protect this right of ours with a federal holiday, and we celebrate the American worker with a federal holiday. We should elevate the actual act of voting to the same level, and by doing so, allow more Americans to actually vote on that day.
