While the President may not have the power to make Election Day a holiday for all, he can at the very least issue an executive order that would render it a federal holiday - meaning that most government employees would have the day off to vote. This would be the first step in an action that needs to happen. Putting Election Day on a Tuesday limits voter participation, primarily in the working class. The people of this country who work and pay taxes have the right to an entire day that is dedicated to democracy. In order for democracy to function: the people must be allowed to speak. They should not have to find time in their busy day to fulfill their obligation to this country. If President Obama is serious about democracy, then Democracy Day (or D-Day... it sells itself) needs to exist.
