Our country has fought for the right of its people to elect their own governmental representatives and President. Too many before us have died for this very right. Our government does not celebrate one of the most important days of the year when we as a free people line up on Election Day to vote! This is a day when we should not only recognize our freedom as Americans to choose our leaders, but it is a day that must be celebrated.
Tens of millions of eligible voters do not vote on Election Day. Many of them cannot due to school, work, or other reasons involving a busy schedule. Making Election Day a Federal Holiday would encourage schools to release their students and businesses to release their employees so they may go out and vote.
