All Americans should have the ability to vote their conscience and participate in the democratic process. A federal holiday and state holidays (were they to follow suit) would allow all citizens the ability to vote, regardless of geographical location, race or income levels.
We've all seen the reports showing the long lines in urban areas and complaints of voter suppression. A holiday would allow the current capacity of voting locations to accommodate more voters, boost confidence in the outcome of our elections, and secure the voting rights of all Americans.
And should the cost of an additional holiday be an issue, we could replace a current Federal Holiday to accomplish it.
