Having the right to vote in free and fair elections is a major pillar of democracy. In this country, voting rights had been limited to a select group for a long period of time and has come a long way to include all persons over the age of eighteen. Currently, national elections take place on a Tuesday. A signifiant number of registered voters in Presidential Elections and the majority of voters in the Midterms do not vote in these elections.
Because voting is a fundamental right for many and that it elects public officials who govern us and take care of the well being of all, every federal election should be a National Holiday to allow citizens a day to vote and for the nation to become more interested in American government.
