Make election day a national holiday.

Created by J.M. on December 08, 2014

If our democracy is going to be "of the people", "by the people", and "for the people" voter turnout must be higher than the ~37% this year (Washington Post). If we can give workers the day after Christmas off, why can't we give people election day off?

This is not about politics. This is about showing an effort to have a country that hears it's populous and not just a select group. Countries in which election day is a holiday have a higher turnout rate than the United States. If we are to be the example of a democratic state across the globe, it's time we put in an effort to hear the voices of more than 30-50% of our registered voters.
