Make Election Day a National Holiday and do away with Columbus Day

Created by M.H. on October 12, 2015

This petition is aimed at recognizing Election Day as a National Holiday and at the same time getting away from celebrating Columbus Day.
Today only 23 states actually recognize Columbus Day as a national Holiday.
Election day is a day where we elect the next Gov't officials that will run our , Counties, States and Country.
I think that most Americans would see this as a step in the right direction in giving people the time needed to cast a vote.
It would also give families an opportunity to vote as a family and have debates in their own homes as to who they think is best to run municipalities within their area and our country.
Columbus Day is a Holiday that frankly celebrates a murderer and the genocide of millions of native americans
