We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Make Election Day a national holiday instead of Columbus Day

Created by A.C. on December 08, 2016

Let's be honest; Columbus was a sack of human garbage who is known for discovering something that was already found. What he did is the equivalent of me walking into my neighbor's house and telling them I found it so I get to live there now. Columbus and his men raped, killed, and enslaved thousands of Native Americans while spreading smallpox to hundreds of thousands more.

That being said, voting is the most important civic duty and right of American citizens. The fact that long lines or the inability to take off work or find child care dissuade American people from voting is beyond disappointing. If Election Day were a national holiday, this would make it exponentially easier for Americans to exercise their right to vote and would encourage thousands, if not millions, of new voters.
