Make Election Day a national holiday in order to make the United States of America a better democracy

Created by S.D. on June 16, 2014

Participation in our democracy is at an all time low. This petition is to make the most basic and practical change towards reversing this fact: make Election Day a national holiday. Many people find going to the polls on a Tuesday to be a trying and demanding task. Many folks are busy at work and can not get their voices heard. Even in presidential elections, voter participation stays at around 50% of the population. If our democracy is going to survive it is going to have to become more representative of the citizens of this great nation. So, in order to make a more perfect union, we should make our Election Day a national holiday.
