Make Election Day a National Holiday (replacing Columbus Day) to celebrate our democracy and encourage voting.

Created by J.K. on November 06, 2013

The world's leading democracy should celebrate our democratic heritage and lead the world in voter turnout. A National Holiday to celebrate Election Day would honor what makes our nation great, and allow citizens an entire day to participate in the election process.

An Election Day holiday would replace Columbus Day as a National Holiday, putting an end to the veneration of this historical figure who, guided by greed, contributed to the genocide of the indigenous people of North and South American and the creation of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
