Make election day a national holiday so that businesses and universities are shut down and more Americans can vote.

Created by S.B. on May 02, 2014

There is no right more important to the democratic process than the right to vote. Unfortunately, many Americans do not exercise this right come election day. Many studies have shown that this is not because Americans do not care about the issues. We don't vote because we have jobs, classes, and other responsibilities we must attend to. This petition wants the President to act to make election day a national holiday.
By doing this lower income families would not have to make the choice between voting and loosing a day of pay, college students would have the time to arrange transportation and go to the polls, and we would be sending a message to all Americans that voting is important.
Two hours is simply not enough time to vote for many Americans. Please sign so everyone has this right.
