Currently as a nation we send large sums of money to countries that see us as their enemy. This aids and abets their purposes and harms our national interests in the long term.
The government should formulate tax, regulatory and military policy that favors energy resources from countries which do not pose a security threat to our way of life. Although we are not likely to provide all of our energy from domestic sources going forward, we can influence where that energy comes from.
This is not just an economic issue, but one that has national security implications and should be treated with the seriousness that entails.
