The English and Spanish languages have been spoken in current US territory for centuries. While there exists no official language at the federal level, we wish to change that by having the federal government; either through a constitutional amendment or act of Congress, declare both languages be official at the federal level. The act should state that US citizens have a right to services in both languages in all federal departments, that they could be heard in federal courts in both languages, and that the US congress will adopt laws and publish regulations in both language each having equal weight. This will ensure that the 1 in 5 US citizens whom speak Spanish as their native language have equal access to having their voice heard in government, and give de jure status to Spanish.
