MAKE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THE OFFICIAL NATIONAL LANGUAGE FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Created by G.W. on January 29, 2013

The purpose of this petition is to declare English as the official national language of the United States of America and to promote the patriotic integration of prospective US citizens; to adopt an understanding that other languages will not be prohibited except when required by employers or government agencies for the purpose of effective communication.

Facts: English is the de facto national language of the United States, with approximately 85.9% of the population claiming it as a mother tongue, and approximately 95.5% claiming to speak it "well" or "very well" according to the Census Bureau. English has been the de facto national language since the Declaration of Independence and has been taught in U.S. schools throughout U.S. history.
