I believe that the ability to effectively communicate with others who are either American citizens or aliens choosing to be in America for an extended period is a right and privilege that needs to be protected. It is a nice ideal to say we are a melting pot of diversity and letting persons communicate in a language of their ancestry alone is a great display of our individual heritage, however in a true melting pot all people would converge and become one, unifying under a common speech. Another consideration is the ability to communicate effectively with other people in an emergency situation. If no interpreter is available how do you communicate with emergency staff like doctors?
