No one is fully capable of moving up the economic ladder in the United States without proficiency in the English language. What one speaks at home or in one's community is a matter of choice. The world's economy runs on English and America is an intrinsic part of this. By not encouraging and working towards this goal in many immigrant communities we are creating a subservient class of workers who will be denied their right to build a better future. We must avoid becoming soft economic racists by not pushing for a level playing field for all.
