Whereas, in the history of the United States, as a nation of immigrants, all such newcomers had it implied that in coming here, they would have to learn English. This gave us a linga franca, or common tongue, that would bind us together as one people, all able to communicate with some relative measure of understanding. However, for the last fifty years or so, there has been a move away from this common tongue toward trying to accommodate every language on the planet. The result is both a balkanization and tower of Babel, people unable to communicate, much less able to develop a sense of national unity. Therefore, we petition to make English the official language of the US, and have it be the language of business and official documents.
