Make an exemption to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in regards to military and veterans benefits for gay spouses.

Created by B.B. on February 14, 2013

This petition is to ensure that military and veteran families where gay marriage or civil unions of same sex couples are legal are able to have an exemption from the Defense of Marriage Act for their military and veterans benefits. While not a full repeal, I believe this would be a step in the right direction and something almost all Americans can support. If a gay spouse is lost on the battlefield his or her widow and/or children from their legal marriage under State laws should not prevent them from receiving the same benefits.
