As Elected officials are in many ways immune from the consequences of their actions yet they make decisions that impact the electorate they represent.
One of the primary roles of our elected officials is to create a budget and fund government operations. When these officials are unable to create, and pass a budget, and this lack of action causes a full or partial government shutdown I propose:
- Elected officials leave is cancelled and they must return to work
- Legislative sessions remain in session until a budget is passed and signed.
- The costs of the extended sessions are recovered from the elected officials salaries.
The reason for this last statement is that these officials are the cause of this added cost. Perhaps this will provide incentive.
