It would be better for individuals and businesses if the federal holiday for Independence Day was always celebrated on a Friday. It would make it easier for the American people to travel, minimize disruptions for businesses, and support increased commerce.
Independence Day does not need to be celebrated on July 4. July 2 is the date the resolution of independence was approved by congress. Many historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed. Other Federal Holidays such as Thanksgiving are celebrated on the same day of the week each year, not on a specific date.
Always celebrating our independence on Friday has clear advantages to the American people and to our economy.
