make the Federal Minimum Wage for Tipped Employees equal to fifty percent of the regular Federal Minimum Wage.

Created by D.B. on January 26, 2016

Today is Tuesday, January 26, 2016, and currently Federal Minimum Wage for Tipped Employees is $2.13 per hour. At $2.13, restaurants can schedule three servers for $6.39 per hour which is less than $7.25 per hour for one cook or for one dishwasher. I feel that restaurants are taking advantage of this and are taking advantage of tipped employees by asking them to fulfill duties traditionally performed by regular Minimum Wage employees, for example: cleaning areas of the kitchen or collectively filling-in as half of the team that washes the dishes. This needs to stop. One way to better-protect tipped employees is to make their hourly wage equal to 50% of regular Minimum Wage. Thank you.
