Make a firearms license a requirement to own or buy a firearm.

Created by S.H. on December 26, 2012

In order to drive an automobile, one must first demonstrate proper knowledge and skill of how to drive an automobile safely. We should apply a similar standard to firearms ownership. A requirement to obtaining this proposed license should be demonstrating proper knowledge and training on firearms handling and safety. Additionally, a course on the use of deadly force, similar to what law enforcement receive, should be a required condition of acquiring this license. Requiring a license to own a firearm hardly constitutes an infringement on the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Owning a firearm entails a certain amount of responsibility. By requiring a license we can ensure that a firearms owner is aware of his or her responsibility as the owner of a firearm.
