Currently, FMLA only protects those who have been with a single employer for at least one year. Often, this "traps" chronically ill, disabled workers, or caregivers, in a single job, unable to seek better employment or pay.
Requiring a year of unprotected service forces disabled workers or caregivers to remain in less-than-ideal jobs, lose career mobility, suffer economically (& thus unable to save for inevitable health care costs), and sacrifice geographic mobility.
Thus we petition:
1) Make FMLA benefits "portable" - eligibility transfers from old job to new
2) Make it unlawful for a job offer to be rescinded or employment terminated when FMLA protections are requested
3) FMLA intermittent leave becomes part of ADA accommodations
4) Worker disclosure not required prior to employment
