Our government needs some really good ideas for reform. Unfortunately, they can't take care of everyone because some people are really good at taking advantage of the system.
My idea for forwarding a system that works is make the bridge card/food stamps more like WIC. WIC provides the necessities.
As an example, many times I have seen people buy cases of Monster with their food card:
1) The nutritional value to monster isn't very high, if anything.
2) They can get a deposit in some states for Monster.
If I give someone my tax dollars to support themselves, I want them to eat nutritional food, not junk.
I also get annoyed by (in my town) people breaking the can return because they are putting full cans in to get the deposit.
