make foreign language education a serious priority in the United States.

Created by M.T. on March 08, 2013

We, the undersigned, call on the Obama Administration to make foreign language education a serious priority in the United States, aiming to make at least 50% of all Americans fully bilingual by 2030. Our country’s drop in global education ranks is due to the fact that the percentage of public and private elementary schools offering foreign language instruction has greatly decreased in recent years. There is no longer speculation, the literature is available: early foreign language acquisition has been proven to improve children’s over-all competency and positively affects intellectual growth. Let’s restore the United States’ international integrity, and repel the stigma that those who speak two languages are called bilingual while those who speak one are called Americans.
